Quick post

Happy May!

Some quick updates:

1. I got promoted! Which is super exciting and stressful at the same time. While I'm not excited as I'm supposed to (because this promotion is like a 'rite of passage' for my line of work, basically graduating from the 'trainee' phase to the full on 'consultant' phase, and shit gets real from now on) it has still been a good news to start the month and I'm truly thankful to my team who has been nothing but supportive. It's quite amazing when I go out with friends now and 90% of the work-related conversations would revolve around complaints regarding bosses and co-workers (which is definitely a normal thing), I genuinely have nothing bad to say about them (except for the small quirks which I guess are normal and not detrimental like some of the other things I've experienced/heard). It's been humbling and made me feel super grateful and hopefully motivated to work hard now that the real shit starts lol.

2. Now that I'm promoted, I'm adulting a bit more with regard to things like applying for credit cards (which are super confusing - would it be bad if I apply for cards to get their rewards and then cancel them after? It's realy just to pay back for all the time I waste on researching lol) and looking at insurance/investment (another super confusing thing. What are fixed deposits?) The more I look into these the more I'm convinced that all these should have been taught since young, but then again that means companies must think of more creative way to earn money from us, hashtag capitalism.

3. I keep thinking of getting a new laptop but I also have to keep stopping myself because it's really more of a want than a need, and my 6.5-year-old laptop is actually doing amazing for its age (please don't jinx).

4. Still thinking of migrating from Blogger to Wordpress but I'm too lazy to actually do the process. Why can't Blogger have better themes?

5. I need to force myself to read more. This hyper-distracting world of digital gadgets is really annoying and messing with my attention span.

6. And blog more.

7. I have no upcoming travel plans for the year and things are just not progressing for me to have any concrete plan at the moment. On the upside, I will most likely either go to Japan or Australia! We'll see how it goes.

8. Stream LEMONADE on Spotify: http://spoti.fi/2KWXnQp

It's another New Year!

If you know me, you know that I don't usually do new year's resolutions. Because what is time but a social construct? Like ok, I see the point, and if it helps to motivate people into doing things, good for them. But I've never been the kind of person that is able to follow through with something if I plan them too rigorously. But then again, now that I'm 5.5 years into the corporate life, I realise that planning is important, and not even for the kind of big picture capitalist goals/visions/missions thing that companies do, but even for the day to day kind of work, because of how technologies have created this need to be super 'efficient' and 'productive'. Sometimes I wish that writing a blog post like this could be considered 'productive' as well in this capitalist world, because then I may be more motivated to write more than one post per year. Remember the time that I wanted to write one blog post per week and I wrote like 5 posts? Lol. Anywa

Life in quarantine

Ah hello, it's been a while. Not that anyone visits this blog anymore lol. But it's still good to be able to write things out some time. So we're entering the third week of lockdown here in Singapore. Yes it is a lockdown despite what the formal term is. And me, being a good citizen and law-abiding non-Singaporean, is staying at home. Thank you e-commerce and delivery services (as well as frontliners and health workers, of course). It's interesting to see how things are panning out, at least from the way people are reacting to this. For me personally, I really don't mind being at home for most of my week, but I do enjoy the very rare trips to the convenience stores nearby or just to check my mails downstairs. I've grown increasingly lazy to even go out to a supermarket and buy actual grocery - luckily my roommates will be happy to help. Generally I do feel that people are frustrated because they don't have a choice - das ist nicht freiwillig! (Yes I
