2018 in review

So the end of the year is approaching... Again. This time last year I was filled with excitement, coming out from yet another turbulent year and looking forward to a fresh start. And 2018 was indeed, a fresh start - one of the smoothest years of my life so far and while there were some ups and downs, it was definitely a good year for me to slow down, rebalance myself and get ready to accelerate in 2019 and beyond!

(By the way the videos can't be played and I'm too lazy to figure out a way so I'll revisit them in the future lol)

JANUARY

Started work at Page Personnel. Little did I know what I was stepping into (didn't have many options to begin with lol), but luckily I ended up in an amazing team doing meaningful work that I actually believe in, and left the 2017 trauma behind lol.

My new colleague! This was at the Kick-Off Bash where I helped my team win the costumes contest with a dance-off lmao

FEBRUARY

CAC+US 2018! Possibly my last CAC+US. While nothing can compare to FORMATION in 2017, this was a pretty fun experience where I get to both dance and choreograph. Side note: I really miss dance. Haven't danced since CAC+US and that is like almost 1 year already. Hais.

Magnum opus

Also went to a quick staycation for CNY at Grand Park City Hall, and I was down with a bad sinus day ugh.

This gorgeous room tho 😍

Oh and Feb was also the month that I went on a whim and decided to purchase an iPhone! I was pissed off by my S7 battery and decided to change out of curiosity, and hasn't looked back so far heh.

Small achievement at work - 3 assisted placements in my first operational month!

MARCH

The highlight of March was GREEN LETTER TRIP that I didn't contribute anything but was still graciously invited by the team to join. It was to BANGKOK - any further details needed?

Also visited the sakura garden at Gardens by the Bay and had some flashbacks of the good times in Bonn cries.

APRIL

Started the month with a GYM MEMBERSHIP! My first time signing up and going to the gym in order to curb the crazy weight gain that started since I graduated and started working full time. So far it has not been that effective in reducing weight but at least I'm gaining some muscles... Lol

Plus I can pretend to be in a staycation every weekend with this gorgeous pool heh

Another highlight was BEYCHELLA, especially throwback hits like Check On It and Deja Vu being performed in FULL - I was shook.

MAY

May was a pretty uneventful month and quite slow at work too, until the SECOND LAST WEEKEND when I BROKE MY BACK from literally sitting on the couch watching Netflix lol. It was really a painful reminder of how old I am and that I need to take care of my body more. Following which was a week full of chiro, going to see specialist, and limping around the office like a senior citizen. It wasn't pretty lol (but chiro was very nice and relaxing hah).

JUNE

June was quite exciting. Slowly recovering from my back ordeal, I was excited to have my mum visit and bringing her to Batam for a 1-night stay (which she hesitantly went along because I'd booked and paid for everything, grudgingly checked in to the 5-star resort). She did enjoy it towards the later part of the trip, thanks to the amazing weather and many photo ops.

AND THE SURPRISE DROP OF EVERYTHING IS LOVE. I WENT APESHIT.

Video of the year hands down

JULY

July was another peaceful month so the main highlight would be the nerve-wracking APPRAISAL at work lol. Still wasn't that used to the corporate life yet so it was quite scary (I survived). And maybe some good food?

Chili crab with the team

Halal dim sum at The Dim Sum Shop (it's really good)

AUGUST

Another boring month LOL except I went to do my brows for the first time and then proceeded to take like 14093215 selfies hahahah. It was really quite good though but I'm just too lazy to maintain it.

What u lookin at gurl

Oh yes I also took my corporate photo and unfortunately I don't think there's a future of becoming America's Next Top Model (or anywhere's next top model)

SEPTEMBER

Wooooo the exciting month has finally come along. It's my birthdayyy which obviously comes with my BIRTHDAY TRIP to HONG KONG! I was supposed to write a blog post about this and obviously have not lol I'll get around to it one day hopefully. Meanwhile here are some photos - I surprisingly really like Hong Kong and even though yes it is just another city like Singapore, the hustle and bustle are completely different and I guess the energy was just more infectious especially for a short visit. The size helps too and there seems to be so many things to do on a weekend, for example, compared to Singapore. Living there on another hand would not be easy I feel.

I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE HMV OMG

MY FIRST TIME TO DISNEYLANDDDDD

OCTOBER

Going back to work after my trip I was greeted by a freaking birthday prank by my boss, which was very entertaining for everyone else but me lol

Also went to see SAM SMITH live and the experience was much better than I expected! Of course he sang beautifully, but the concert was also very entertaining and the pace between the slow and fast song was really well done. Only missing song for me was Latch (Disclosure remix).

Idk why I bought this lmao trying to be hypebeast

One of my favourite performances - watch til the end!

Fast forward to the end of the month and it's ANOTHER TRIP! This time back to Hanoi to bring my friends around. It was literally "lên rừng xuống biển" i.e. from mountains to beaches in like 2 days - not the best itinerary but well we did get to see a lot of things. It's nice to be a tourist in my home country again though, especially in Ha Long Bay as I really have not been there since like what 10+ years ago. I also attended 2 of my friends' weddings on the same weekend and of course the dreaded topic comes up again with my parents. Ugh. Not happening lol.

First time stepping into Sofitel Metropole Hanoi because it's just too fancy for my old self

The cruise looks better from the outside. Please spend a bit more money to get a better cruise, it will make your HLB experience a lot better lol.

NOVEMBER

November was... an interesting month to say the least. At work, there were many changes, people coming and going (I guess it's that time of the year when people start to consider changes). Opportunities were presented to me too and of course there were a lot of internal debates of where I should be, what next year should be like and where do I go from here especially going into 2019. Had some talks, made some choices, and now that things are happening, it is kind of scary and exciting at the same time.

There were some draining days in the office so as per usual, I ran away to yet another trip 😂 this time to Cameron Highlands with Jazz friends! It was my first time travelling to Cameron Highlands and with this bunch of friends and it turned out to be quite a fun experience. We didn't have WiFi when we arrived at the Airbnb, which I guess was supposedly a good thing as it'd force us to have more conversations with each other, but we just ended up using data roaming because we have some money now #adulting. Nevertheless it was still great and despite the lack of sleep, the amaaazingg cold weather, mostly good food and fun times really made it a good trip.

An interesting hotpot

I had to double check to make sure this is not Sapa lol

DECEMBER

Woots we finally arrived at the last month of the year. It was a pretty lonely month lol as someone was away for like 3 weeks, so I guess we're back to another boring month. The ending was pretty cool though, as we had another staycation at the fancy Swissotel The Stamford (my first time staying at a 5-star hotel in Singapore) and I hosted a Xmas party at my house, after which I went out to drink and almost immediately realised how old I was (again).

THIS FREAKING VIEW FROM THE 54TH FLOOR THOUGH

The last week of the month was pretty chill as I had 1 day of work and even then I didn't really do anything haha. Another good period to chill because once 2019 starts, it won't be the same (oh at all) and I'm glad to pull together this blog post before the end of the year. If you see my planner, EVERY WEEK there's an unticked box that says "blog" lol. I promise I'll write more in 2019 (I'll probably have more things to rant about as well).

IN CONCLUSION...

Yes it was a pretty good year and here's to hoping 2019 will be a good year as well. It will definitely be a much more challenging year work-wise, but I'm excited for the new opportunities that come alongside the challenges.

Plus, to more trips! Already in the process of prospecting/planning is Australia, Bali and Japan (plus KL for my friend's wedding woo) and I am really looking forward to these, provided that I make enough money to go first lol.

I'm not sure what else to write. I want to write a separate post for music recap but considering that my 2017 music review post has been in draft for over a year, it might not be happening oops. Nevertheless I'm planning to write more next year, and will probably start with posts about my trips as well as some retrospective posts that explore other personal topics in depth (should be mostly work-related or personal development-related. Boring.)

If you happen to chance upon this post and have read thus far, congrats! Your 2019 will be better than other people 😇

Yes I'm Vietnamese hence I'll be playing this song to ring in the new year.

It's another New Year!

If you know me, you know that I don't usually do new year's resolutions. Because what is time but a social construct? Like ok, I see the point, and if it helps to motivate people into doing things, good for them. But I've never been the kind of person that is able to follow through with something if I plan them too rigorously. But then again, now that I'm 5.5 years into the corporate life, I realise that planning is important, and not even for the kind of big picture capitalist goals/visions/missions thing that companies do, but even for the day to day kind of work, because of how technologies have created this need to be super 'efficient' and 'productive'. Sometimes I wish that writing a blog post like this could be considered 'productive' as well in this capitalist world, because then I may be more motivated to write more than one post per year. Remember the time that I wanted to write one blog post per week and I wrote like 5 posts? Lol. Anywa

Life in quarantine

Ah hello, it's been a while. Not that anyone visits this blog anymore lol. But it's still good to be able to write things out some time. So we're entering the third week of lockdown here in Singapore. Yes it is a lockdown despite what the formal term is. And me, being a good citizen and law-abiding non-Singaporean, is staying at home. Thank you e-commerce and delivery services (as well as frontliners and health workers, of course). It's interesting to see how things are panning out, at least from the way people are reacting to this. For me personally, I really don't mind being at home for most of my week, but I do enjoy the very rare trips to the convenience stores nearby or just to check my mails downstairs. I've grown increasingly lazy to even go out to a supermarket and buy actual grocery - luckily my roommates will be happy to help. Generally I do feel that people are frustrated because they don't have a choice - das ist nicht freiwillig! (Yes I

2019

Just realised that I posted a post for 2020 planning/goals/whatever you want to call those like 1 month ago. Which makes me posting a 2019 reflections post at this moment kind of random lol but it's my blog so I do whatever I want. Nothing too fancy, just want to lay out some achievements and other highlights of 2019: Jan - switched to a role with more responsibilities. Started training phase Feb - went home for Tết Mar - qualified for Breakfast Club. KL trip was fun April - got promoted May - good start to the Consultant life, another Breakfast Club qualification. Didn't know what would hit me next lol Jun - shit month at work Jul - meh month at work Aug - first time being a groomsman Sep (craziest month) - first time being a bridesmaid and wedding emcee (the day after being a groomsman. Went on leave for 10 days on one of the best trips of my life to Japan and came back getting Consultant of the Month Oct - some severe post-travel depression that led to an improm
